Research and Development

 Currently India imports technology from countries like the USA, Russia and Israel. The reason for this is lack of innovation. India spends a mere 0.9% of its Gross Domestic Product on Research and development. This needs to be increased to at least 3%.Without this, the desire to become a developed country will remain a distant dream. China spends 1.84% of its GDP on research whereas the United States spends 2.79%.Science and technology is pivotal to the growth of other sectors of the economy. India produces nearly 600 thousand engineers per year but very little emphasis has been paid to research and development. Wealth of a nation comes from research. There is no university in India for the purpose of innovation.

Backlog of pending cases in India

Litigation in India usually ends with the petitioner's life. There is a huge backlog of pending cases.Over 40 million cases are pending in the courts with 27 million cases pending in the lower courts alone.This  backlog has been increasing at the rate of 3.4% annually.The reason for this is lack of vacancies for the post of judges.The state of Uttar Pradesh is on top of the list with more than 5 million cases pending in the lower courts. The government of India proposed to introduce an All India Judicial Service at par with the Indian Civil services to churn out the best talent from the youth. Unfortunately, this proposal was met with a lot of opposition and discontent owing to many political reasons so the proposal had to be taken back.The total strength of the Supreme Court of India is 31. There are three posts still lying vacant.This just goes to show that judicial reforms in India is the need of the hour.

Being an entrepreneur v. Having a Job

Being an entrepreneur means that you are your own master and you are only accountable to yourself for your own shortcomings. There is no fixed time schedule to work .An entrepreneur can choose to work 4 hours a day or 12 hours a day. It is solely his/her own discretion.Reward is proportional to the amount of hard work. An entrepreneur gets to keep the major chunk of the profits unlike a job where for every ten dollar earned, hundred dollar have to be generated first.Also, an entrepreneur gets the golden opportunity to escape the rat race and has total control over his/her life.The most important thing is that the person is not living someone else's dream.You get to chalk out your own plan and develop strategies to execute that plan unlike being in a job.Financial freedom can only be achieved being a successful entrepreneur.However, being an entrepreneur also has its own drawbacks. It means that an individual should have great risk taking capabilities.He should be ready to bear uncertainties in production.There is no job security unlike government jobs which are usually recession proof .Profit generated may be either positive or negative and a lot of attention has to be paid towards change in the business cycle.  

Is there such a term called 'Superiority Complex' ?

I firmly believe that 'superiority complex' is a superficial term because it is something which stems out of inferiority complex. A person tries to put across something which he knows is not backed by his strength of convictions. He tries to put across a deceptive image and tries to live by it. So in a way he/she gets trapped in a vicious cycle.A person with such a problem problem tries to compare himself with everyone around. Even if there is a single person ahead of him, he gets trapped into the never ending vicious cycle.This type of a person constantly tries to fight himself and is a classic victim of depression.The philosophy of such a person is something like this 'I am the most important person in this world. I deserve all the attention' . When this doesn't happen, the person gets shattered emotionally and develops more baggage in the emotional realm.I think that a person suffering with superiority complex should just change his philosophy of life and spend more time in introspection.

The Disadvantage of having a Plan B

Having a plan B gives us a sense of security which is exactly what contributes to failure.We subconsciously develop a thinking that if something goes wrong with plan A, then we have a second plan to fall back upon.In other words,we develop a lackadaisical attitude towards plan A. An individual gets into his/her comfort zone because the element of fear of failure gets substantially reduced. A counter argument could be drawn here that putting all eggs in one basket is not a good idea. But that is what differentiates the gold from silver. Fear is what drives a human being to break his own records or to reach new heights of success.It is the same fear which drives a person to pay taxes every year and it is also the same fear because of which people are compelled to work. Similarly many other examples can be co-related. When this element is replaced with comfort, then the mind operates more by choice rather than compulsion.   

SOCRATIC METHOD

USING THE SOCRATIC METHOD HAS SOLVED MANY DIFFICULT PROBLEMS IN MY LIFE. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I USE THIS METHOD SUBCONSCIOUSLY AS IT HAS EVOLVED INTO HABIT OVER TIME WHICH ALSO MAKES ME LOOK INQUISITIVE AND UNCONVENTIONAL SOMETIMES. NEVERTHELESS I HAVE REAPED RICH DIVIDENDS FROM IT. ASKING MANY QUESTIONS AND THEN ARRIVING AT A CONCLUSION BASED ON DIFFERENT PREMISES IS AN ACCURATE WAY TO TAKE GOOD DECISIONS. HERE I AM NOT ASKING THE USER TO GET SWAYED AWAY BY THE CHOICES OF OPINIONS HE/SHE MAY HAVE. BUT I AM MERELY ASKING FOR EXERCISE OF DUE DILIGENCE WHILE ARRIVING AT A CONCLUSION.QUALITY MUST ALWAYS BE GIVEN PRIORITY OVER QUANTITY. IN THE SAME WAY ONLY INFORMATION THAT IS RELEVANT AND BASED ON TRUSTED SOURCES SHOULD BE ANALYSED. ELITE BUSINESS SCHOOLS LIKE THE HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL HAVE ADOPTED THIS METHODOLOGY FOR THEIR CASE STUDIES. EVEN CRIMINAL LAWYERS USE THIS METHOD TO CROSS CHECK THE WITNESS'S  STATEMENTS.

Democracy in India

 It is often quoted that "democracy is of the people, by the people, for the people".But is India a real democracy? Elements of political democracy are very well present in India like holding of elections every five years and voting rights. But as far as cultural democracy is concerned, much requires to be attained. Whenever an unprivileged person commits a petty offence, the laws are strictly interpreted and it is made sure that the person gets the maximum punishment prescribed under the law, but when the rich commit the so called white collar crimes worth millions of dollars, the laws are often given a liberal construction and such people either go scot-free or are given less than the adequate punishment.Justice Holmes, the propounder of Realist School of law once said  "law is what the judges say it is".Perhaps, the veracity of this statement is correct in case of India. It seems that India is a democracy by the rich, of the rich and for the rich.The social activists who undertake any good cause are treated brutally by the cops .The unempowered in India are not respected. India desperately needs a new cultural framework.

Condition of women in India

Though there are various NGO's and commissions set up to protect the dignity of women, their condition is ever deteriorating. Cases of dowry deaths are very common in India.A woman is taught through her childhood that marriage is the ultimate aim of life and a lot of responsibilities have to be undertaken after that. They are also taught that marriages are made in heaven and that the society looks down upon women who leave their husbands or get divorced. As a result, many women who face cases of domestic violence and sexual abuse do not stand against their husbands.Cases of dowry deaths are not unheard of. There is no law in India prescribing any punishment for victims of marital rape.The divorce laws are such that it takes approximately two years to get a divorce if things go smoothly. Also there are cases of female foeticide in certain parts of the country. In traditional Indian families, a girl child is seen as a burden to the family.Hence, there are reports of such incidents.Recently a gang rape victim in Delhi succumbed to death after courageously fighting for her life for 10 days.Rape laws need to be amended.

Effective Communication

The first goal of effective communication with others begin with building relations.Talking for building relations is the basis of everything we do with people.Essential function of talking to people is to display social rules as a member of our community.Most of the time people build rules in order to get the information.Some people maintain politeness in order to seek information or they maintain a sense of enthusiasm.We have learnt that rudeness in asking information will hinder us from getting the information. Conversing with people allows us to show others how they can get to know us better.Our listeners move from the first impression of us to something more lasting.The earlier stages of a conversation tends to show our demographic or biological information.

Initial conversations are not about creating differences or arguments but to discover what works for the other person.We build up a temporary identity in the discussion of a variety of subjects.The goal is to sustain an emotional relation.The nature of this talk is casual.Our voices sound relaxed as an indicator that what we say is not to be taken very seriously.Small talk shows our communication competence.If we can enter and leave these communication moments then people will not only think of us as normal but will also tend to like us.They are a safe way to demonstrate our need for communication.  If we can’t adhere to these fundamental rules we would be usually met with some level of sanction.

IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING TRUST

Building trust is one quality that a relationship can't survive without.It is as critical as oxygen is to our body.When a person "trusts" another, he or she has the belief that the other person will act in such a way that is in alignment with his or her "rules" for living.As long as this other person doesn't violate your "rules" for how you want your life to be, you say that you "trust" that person.When trust has been broken, what actually has happened is that there has been a rules violation between the two people.In other words, something either happened or didn't happen that violated one or both peoples' rules for what they want in their relationship and they're upset about it. "Trust" violations can be small things or they can be much bigger issues that can really damage or destroy a relationship.Creating more trust between two people is finding the overlap in their "rules" for living or changing the rules Since we all break trust at one time or another in small or large ways in our relationships (without even realizing it), it's important to find ways to constantly rebuild it.
